Burkina Faso and Iran agree to hold a joint business committee

March 19, 2023 – 01:05

News (Nouakchott) – Burkina Faso and Iran agreed to convene a joint business committee between the two countries “as soon as possible” and to enhance areas of cooperation between Ouagadougou and Tehran.

This came during bilateral talks between Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Olivia Ruamba, and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ali Reza Enayati.

The two sides agreed to evaluate areas of interest to the two countries “in order to strengthen them on the basis of a win-win partnership,” and congratulated each other on the appointment of ambassadors to the two countries.

The Iranian ambassador, Ouagadougou, had recently presented his credentials to the country’s chief diplomat, Olivia Ruamba, and Burkina Faso, for its part, was appointed ambassador to Iran.

Recently, Iran’s interest in the Sahel region has increased, as its foreign minister previously visited Mauritania and Mali, and the country’s deputy foreign minister visited Burkina Faso, in conjunction with the increasing presence of its ally Russia in the region.
