Subroto, the former Minister of Mines and Energy (now ESDM) breathed his last today, Tuesday (20/2/2022). The energy minister figure during the President Suharto era has died at the age of 99.
According to the statement from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Subroto will be buried in Bimasena on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 until tomorrow morning, Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Also, the late Subroto will be buried in the Chairul Saleh General Secretariat Building of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources froml From 11.00 WIB to 15.00 WIB.
“Then he will be buried in the final resting place of the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery on the same day at 15.30 WIB,” wrote a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources received by detikcom, on Tuesday (20/12/2022).
The entire extended family of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also expressed their condolences on the passing of Subroto. The figure of Subroto is indicated as an important figure who contributed to the development of the world of energy and mineral resources in Indonesia.
The late Subroto passed away at the age of 99 in Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at around 4:25 pm WIB after previously undergoing intensive care at Sulianti Saroso Hospital in Jakarta.
Subroto’s biography
According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Prof. Dr. Subroto was born in Solo, Central Java on September 19, 1923. After graduating from Jogjakarta Military Academy in 1948, he also completed a Master of Arts from McGill University, Canada, in 1956, received a doctorate from the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia in 1958 and a graduate professor from the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia in 1965.
Finally, the late Subroto also received an honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), Alaska, USA.
Prior to serving as minister of mines and energy, Subroto also served as minister of transmigration and cooperatives from 1971 to 1973 and also minister of labour, transmigration and cooperatives from 1973 to 1978. In fact, Subroto also served as secretary general of OPEC in 1988 – 1994 .
Globally, Subroto has earned the nickname The Wise Minister from Indonesia. The nickname was given due to his wisdom and keen insight into oil management among the OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) countries.
The deceased was also skilled in diplomacy and was able to settle disagreements between OPEC countries when he served as Chairman of the Conference (1985-1985) and Secretary General in 1988-1994.
