Malikah Shabazz, the daughter of African-American Muslim leader Malcolm X, was laid to rest in New York on Saturday.
Shabazz, 56, died Nov. 22 in Brooklyn.
After the funeral ceremony at the New York Islamic Cultural Center in Manhattan, she was buried at Ferncliff Cemetery in Westchester County, where her father also rests.
Among those present at the funeral were Malcolm X’s other daughters, a group of African-American Muslims in New York City, and Turkey’s Ambassador to the United States, Hasan Murat Mercan.
The Ambassador conveyed the condolences of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the family of Malcolm X, laying a wreath of red flowers depicting the Turkish flag alongside the coffin of the deceased.
Malcolm X was a prominent leader of the civil rights movement in the United States. He was murdered while giving a speech in a New York City public hall in 1965.
