The Deputy for Culture, Heritage, Youth and Sports, Eduardo Duque, presented this morning the first Festival of Traditional Music in the province of Ávila, ‘Vettonia Folk’. This pioneering event will take place on July 16 and 17 at 9:30 p.m. in the Plaza Mayor de Burgohondo. According to Duque, the festival “will have adequate sanitary measures to carry it out without any problem.” Among these measures will be to maintain a safety distance and the use of a mask within the cordoned off area of the square.
In the words of the deputy, this event arises with the aim of “promoting folk music, supporting Avila musical groups and contributing to the dissemination of popular traditions and customs,” he said. For this, five groups with a lot of experience from both the province of Ávila and Madrid will participate.
The festival has a contribution of 10,000 euros from the Provincial Council of Avila. In this way, an initiative that has been proposed since 2018 comes to light but that for various reasons, both economic and health, has not been carried out to date.
The day of Friday July 16 will be marked by performances by Manantial Folk, a group with 30 years of experience and a very traditional style; Aldea Sonora, a group from Avila, and Trebejo, a group with great percussion. While on Saturday 17, Tierra de Castilla will participate, whose members have, for the most part, roots in Burgohondo, and Hexacorde and Vanesa Muela.
One of the members of the Tierra de Castilla group, Francisco Javier Vázquez, assures that “it is a pride that the first folk music festival is held in our town.” In addition, Vázquez affirms that Tierra de Castilla is different since it has the participation of two dancers, Isabel Navarro and Emma Lucena, and with traditional classical instruments.
The mayor of Burgohondo, Francisco Fernández, invites all residents of Avila to enjoy this pioneering show in the province. Something that everyone agrees on is the fact of being able to maintain this festival during the following years and thus be able to enjoy the folklore of Avila.
