Yesterday’s belated official announcement by the Ministry of the Interior, which in fact refers to an “alleged break-in” in the office of the head of the Elections Directorate instead of giving answers, has created new questions about what exactly has happened and whether and how this event is connected to Michel – Gate.
The opposition did not hide the fact that it considers “suspicious” the coincidence of the break-in at the Directorate of Elections, on the same day when the conclusion of the Ministry of Interior was delivered on the scandal of leaking personal data of voters abroad.
Niki Kerameos and the Ministry of the Interior tried to downplay the matter, calling it an “alleged break-in”, despite the fact that the director of elections whose office was the target of the break-in filed a lawsuit and told the police that the break-in occurred between at 1:40 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. when he himself participated in an official meeting at the ministry’s headquarters on Stadiou Street. In fact, according to in, the computers from the office of the Director of Elections were confiscated by the Greek Police.
Alteration of important documents?
At the same time, according to police sources, the director of elections expressed concern about whether there was access to the electronic files of the computers where someone could alter, remove or copy important files stored on the computers and related to the electoral procedures in the country and the compilation of electoral rolls.
It is noted that this is the second time that the Ministry of the Interior has been involved in a case with many question marks and caused a storm of reactions from the opposition parties who called on the government and the Ministry of the Interior to give clear explanations.
Niki Kerameos chose to express her position regarding “irresponsible mudslinging” and alleged burglary in response to a post by PASOK’s parliamentary representative, Michalis Katrinis.
And the irresponsible mudslinging continues with strong doses of science fiction! The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided all the information requested by the Privacy Protection Authority a long time ago, while the Authority has already sent its findings on the case.

The minister’s response provoked a new reaction from Mr. Katrinis, who requested “to share all the correspondence so far between the Personal Data Protection Authority and the Ministry of the Interior. To answer what was stolen or altered by the ministry’s elections department. To answer if the PC of Mr. Theodoropoulos has been confiscated at the offices of @neademokratia so that we all know exactly what files it contained, when they were transferred or when they were possibly deleted”.
He even asked the minister “why are you responding to events related to the Asimakopoulou scandal with such a delay?” and commented that “so many coincidences in the election management… are not statistically justified”.
Party reactions
SYRIZA, in a statement it issued – the second in a row – asked the government to make known the obvious.
As Koumoundourou underlines, “several hours have now passed since in.gr’s exclusive disclosure of the burglary at the Ministry of the Interior. The government has yet to reveal the obvious: what was stolen and whether personal data has been misappropriated. We are waiting.”
In the previous announcement, in fact, SYRIZA emphasized that the news of the break-in is a particularly worrying incident. According to the official opposition party, “however, it acquires even greater dimensions, in the background of the scandalous leakage of personal data and their illegal use by ND MEP Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou, through ND itself”.
On the part of PASOK, it claims that the Ministry of the Interior is an “open vine”, asking for “clear answers and information. What exactly happened? What elements were the target of the breach at the Ministry of the Interior and what is their relationship with the email gate?”.
“The government must provide an immediate explanation”, underlines the KKE, stressing that “the government must provide an immediate explanation regarding the break-in at the Ministry of the Interior, as revealed in publications, and inform about what exactly has happened and whether documents have been stolen and files and even if this case is related to the email leak and the ongoing investigations.”
