Burger for NOK 185 – VG

BURGER ON PAPERBOARD: This is how the burger looked on the white cardboard plate before it was eaten – at Café Sulten, Superland water park at Quality Hotel in Sarpsborg.

Children often get hungry when they bathe. But both appetite and willingness to pay decreased when the father discovered the price of NOK 185 for a burger with cheese at Superland water park in Sarpsborg.

VG’s readers continue to tip us about prices they think are the worst for goods and services this summer.

After July 1, one went a whole bunch of food items up in price. But also electricity, fuel, accommodationtravels and serving often have a price level in summer that makes people roll their eyes.

That’s exactly what happened to dad Jarl Rehn-Erichsen from Ramnes in Vestfold, who was on a summer trip with his children to Superland/Badeland at the Quality Hotel Sarpsborg in Viken recently.

He had read one of VG’s cases this summer about prishopp and price level.

– Paid NOK 185 for this delicious burger at Superland/Badeland in Sarpsborg, writes Rehn-Erichsen – not without a certain irony in the use of the adjective “play”.

CREATES HUNGER: Swimming and activity often lead to hungry and thirsty children and adults. The picture is from Badeland at the Quality Hotel in Sarpsborg from 2015.

– You get hungry during a day of playing and having fun in the pools. It is possible to buy food in Cafe Sulten there. I had seen several people eating burgers and chips, so I wanted that too. Ordered burger, but without tomato. I was surprised when I got a clean burger with no accessories other than a little cheese on top. It wasn’t chips either, notes the family man.

He thinks NOK 185 is far too high a price for the product he was served.

– The price was NOK 185. It is at least NOK 100 overpriced, I think. Actually, I only got a sweaty chop in a flat burger bun for almost NOK 200, characterizes Rehn-Erichsen.

Defends the award

VG wrote earlier in July about Munch’s café in Åsgårdstrand, Vestfold. There, a customer has to fork out NOK 90 for a bottle of soft drink and DKK 75 for a local lard bun variant.

Statistics Norway its recently published overview of price increases, shows that the hotel and restaurant industry had the second highest price increase last year – by just over nine per cent. (See the table below)

Assistant head of department Sahide Zahiri at Superland water park at the Quality Hotel in Sarpsborg believes NOK 185 is the right price for the burger they sell.

– That is the price we have to charge to cover the costs we have for raw materials and running the offer here. It is also possible to get accessories such as cheese, tomato, onion, cucumber and salad in the burger for the same price, says Zahiri to VG.

– VG has received reactions that the price of NOK 185 is too much?

– That is what we have to take for this product. As far as I know, we have not received any other reactions to this award, Zahiri replies.

She points out that Café Sulten has had this price for the burger for some time, and there are no plans to change the price.
