Burgasians had the opportunity to get acquainted with the beauty and uniqueness of Chinese culture.
This happened with an unforgettable event organized by the English Language High School, which took place in front of the Burgas Municipality building. It featured and demonstrated calligraphy, Chinese traditional costumes, tai chi fans, a book exhibition, paper cutting art, as well as traditional Chinese games.
The main drivers of the demonstration were the two teachers of Chinese language at AEG “Geo Milev”, Janet Tsenova and Katya Kostova, and more details about the event itself were given by Jacqueline Neicheva, director of the Burgas English Language High School.
“We are the 8th “Confucius” classroom, which was opened by the “Confucius” Institute – Sofia and the only one of its kind in Eastern Bulgaria. This fortunate event for us happened in the month of March and it is a natural continuation of our activity with the introduction of Chinese as a second foreign language in our curriculum. Our students study it quite intensively, especially in the second high school stage, when this profiling subject is studied with 5 modules” she shared.
Neycheva explained that the organized event is the first serious one that AEG “Geo Milev” has done as the host of this classroom and the goal is to spread the Chinese language, culture, and traditions to the citizens of Burgas.
“It’s not just about the beautiful Chinese costumes and calligraphy, but also about the art of paper cutting, as well as an opportunity to meet the Chinese specialists from the Confucius Institute.” We demonstrated typical Chinese dances and I think it turned out to be a very beautiful event. The citizens of Burgas have clearly shown that they want this to happen again” she said.
According to her, the interest in the Chinese language in our country is growing more and more. She defined this as a completely justified and very good choice for the students of Burgas for their education.
“We try to offer them the best, and I am convinced that we offer an extremely high level, because our school employs two extremely good Chinese specialists who graduated in Chinese philology. We also have two Chinese schools sent by the Confucius Institute who also teach the classes. I think that we are the only school in Bulgaria where two specialists who speak the Chinese language teach. So, in this regard, Burgas is #1” Neicheva also shared.
