Burgas to Host Sailing Champions League Event
From June 30th to July 2nd, the city of Burgas in Bulgaria will be joining the family of host cities of the Sailing Champions League. The prestigious race will be organized by BORA Sailing in partnership with the “Port Burgas” Yacht Club.
Located in the water area of Burgas Port, just a few meters from the quay, citizens and guests of the city will have the opportunity to witness the excitement and thrill of competitive sailing. After a one-year hiatus, the sailing championship league returns to Burgas, with the BORA Sailing Championship Parkmart Bourgas’2023 being hosted by the Port Burgas Yacht Club. The race will also be broadcast live thanks to b1b.tv.
This event marks the third qualifying round of the season, where the best Bulgarian sailors will compete for the chance to represent Bulgaria at the SAILING Champions League International Finals in 2024.
“Turning Burgas into a nerve center for sailing is our mission, which we are gradually successfully fulfilling! After the successful European championships in the “420”, “470”, and “Optimist” classes, another innovative sports attraction follows!” said Evgeni Mavrodiev, chairman of the Port-Burgas Yacht Club.
During the debut edition of the BORA Sailing Championship Bourgas, the Wildcard team from Yacht Club Kap. G. Georgiev Port Varna emerged as the winners. Consisting of Radoslav Gavrailov (skipper), Polina Grudeva, and Radoslav Raev, the Wildcard team joined the race at the last minute at the invitation of the organizers and claimed the title. The battle for first place was mainly between the teams of SKV Ultramarine, Parkmart Sailing Team, SK Sineva, and Wildcard. Ultimately, Wildcard secured the victory with strong competition and two wins in the finals.
A total of eight teams will participate in the BORA Sailing Championship Parkmart Bourgas’2023. In the first round held at Iskar Dam in April, the teams of Siroko Wind Club (Central Sofia Yacht Club), SKV Ultramarine, LZ Yachting 1991, and Downwind (Yacht Club “Port-Burgas”) emerged as the winners. In the second round held in Varna in early June, the Parkmart Sailing Team claimed the trophy, followed by Downwind and Chocolate Racing Team.
The third round will feature the teams of LZ Yachting 1991, Parkmart, RegaTTac, SKV Ultramarine, Siroko Wind Club, Chocolate Racing Team, and Downwind. The final event of the year, BORA Sailing Championship Parkmart 2023 – Sofia Autumn, will be held on the Iskar Dam from October 13 to 15.
