Bulgaria will host Bosnia and Herzegovina in Burgas in a World Group I match of the Davis Cup tournament. The matches will be played on February 3 and 4, 2024. On both days, the start will be at 2:00 p.m. Thus, for the first time in history, Burgas will host matches from the world team championship for men.
If they win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria will keep their place in World Group I, and if they lose, they will be relegated to World Group II. Our national team entered the elite group of the 100-year-old tournament in February last year after beating New Zealand 3-1.
The matches will be played in the hall of the Avenue Tennis Club. In addition to the three covered hard courts, the facility in the city of Burgas offers eight clay courts, a gym, a shop, a recreation area, a playground, parking and all the necessary conditions for holding high-class tournaments.
“Tennis is a sport that has brought a lot of joy to Bulgaria over the past years. It is our pleasure and honor to host a tournament of such high rank. I thank the Bulgarian Tennis Federation for the vote of confidence. I believe that our national team will win and keep their place in the elite!” commented Mayor Dimitar Nikolov.
The captain of the national tennis team, Valentin Dimov, announced the lineup for the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. It includes Dimitar Kuzmanov, Alexander Lazarov, Piotr Nesterov, Alexander Donski, Yanaki Milev and Adriano Jenev. Up to 24 hours before the start of the meeting, two changes in the composition can be made.
The team will gather at a camp from January 27 in Burgas. Valentin Dimov’s staff will also include conditioning coach Kiril Simeonov, masseur and physiotherapist – Galin Rangelov, and team doctor Prof. Dr. Georgi Popov.
