“Burgas Welcomes New Planetarium – A Center of Knowledge and Science”

The Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov and Gen. Director of DPPI Petar Seferov opens the Planetarium

Burgas has a new attraction – A planetarium that will become a center of knowledge and science. The facility, which impresses with its architecture and has been eye-catching for months, was officially opened on May 24 in front of more than 200 people who were waiting for the first screenings.

The first working day began with a children’s star show and a virtual space walk. As if in a fantasy scenario, children dressed as stars came out of the spherical building to transport everyone present to the mysterious world of the galaxy with their magical dances. After the water light ceremony, eager visitors were able to touch the magic of the universe, watching 2D and 3D visualizations in real time using the latest equipment.

The object is another step in the direction of development of the Public Access Zone. The buildings of the Maritime Station, the emblematic Coastal Traffic Management Center, the Shop and the Congress Center form the urban environment on the seafront, beloved by citizens and guests of the city.

The new attraction is part of the PlanetUM scientific complexwhich has been receiving visitors for nearly a year and enjoys huge interest.

The Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov thanked the General Director of the State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” Petar Seferov for the excellent interaction between the local government and the state. Nikolov thanked the architectural office that prepared the task, as well as the company that implemented this project, which has no analogues in Bulgaria. The main part of the equipment was imported from abroad.

“We are not taking away ship berths as some claim. There are enough berths in Burgas, even deep-sea berths. There are not so many loads for them. We are not taking away shipping berths, we are becoming more of a maritime city. In addition to the science of the vast space, the Planetarium will screen films about nature conservation and the preservation of the world’s oceans. It will be a center of knowledge and science. Because of this, today’s date is the most suitable for its opening”, said the mayor Dimitar Nikolov. He invited kindergartens and schools to bring children to this center.
