Burgas students took part in a conference dedicated to the Mission “Restoring our oceans and waters”, organized by the European Commission – 2024-10-16 07:28:00

Pupils from Burgas primary school “Alexander Georgiev – Kodjakafalliya” and PGRE “G.S. Rakovski” took part in a conference dedicated to the Mission “Restoring our oceans and waters”, organized by the European Commission.

The event was hosted by BSU, and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Municipality of Burgas participated in its implementation.

The forum was held under the title “From the source of the Danube to the Black Sea – healthy water and healthy life”. The purpose of the conference is to encourage dialogue between the regional participants in the Danube River Basin and the Black Sea. The theme emphasizes the needs and actions of communities in the field of scientific research and innovation for the restoration of the Danube River and the Black Sea.

The forum presented innovative and environmentally friendly solutions for the restoration of rivers and sea waters and the sustainability of coastal communities.

The point of view on the subject of the students from the innovative Burgas elementary school “Alexander Georgiev – Kodjakafuliya” was presented in a special report by the sixth grader Gabriela Nikolova.

She emphasized the preventive actions that citizens and institutions should take to protect against water pollution in the Burgas region.

The problem with the increasingly serious pollution of the waters of the Black Sea with plastic was highlighted.

The event is funded by the European Commission and is in line with the European Union’s policy for the restoration of water basins and the promotion of communities in the protection of rivers and seas.

The conference also features other key actors from the Danube Delta and the wider Black Sea communities, including an operational network of donors, existing networks in the Danube region, such as the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) and BioEast – an initiative to bring together to all regional participants from the Danube and Black Sea region.

The regional governor, Professor Maria Neikova, as well as the former Minister of Environment and Water, Ivelina Vasileva, took part in the event.
