The “Aula” hall of the Burgas State University turned out to be cramped for all the students who came to participate in lectures and demonstrations on giving first aid.
All this was part of a university project “Integrated activities of students and pupils to provide first aid”, which is led by Assoc. Dr. Monika Obreikova.
The rector of the university Prof. Dr. Hristo Bozov, MD, who is also a member of the project, spoke on the first topic, “First aid in case of cessation of breathing and cardiac activity”.
Prof. Bozov is an anesthesiologist-resuscitator with a very extensive practice. His aspiration was to build students’ competencies related to the specific knowledge, skills and attitude to emergency situations.
And thanks to such lectures and awareness, at least one human life can be saved. The rector continued with a presentation related to the effects of burns.
Representatives of the Bulgarian Youth Red Cross also took part in the event, who motivated the students to be volunteers and help people in need.
At the end of the event, there was also the practical part, in which students from the specialty “Medical Assistant” and “Nurse” trained the students in learning the practical skills for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
