The academic year 2024/2025 was solemnly opened at the University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”.
This happened in front of the building of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department for Qualification and Professional Development of Pedagogical Specialists.
“The main goal of our university will be, in addition to knowledge, to give its students skills – to work in a team, to make decisions in non-standard situations, to apply the acquired competencies. We will break the stereotype of education by giving you knowledge and skills in an even more innovative way. We enter our new academic year with a significant expansion in the university’s activities. We opened a branch in Dobrich. We made a large-scale renovation of the material base of the university. We are about to open the Faculty of Pharmacy, as well as the transformation of the previous Faculty of Social Sciences into two faculties: the Faculty of Pedagogical Sciences and the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship”, were the words of the rector Prof. Dr. Hristo Bozov, MD. in his solemn speech.
The ceremony was led by Prof. Dr. Sevdalina Turmanova, vice-rector for academic activities in the presence of the rector’s and academic leadership.
The guests of the event were Dimitar Nikolov, Vladimir Krumov, deputy regional governor, Petya Petrova, head of the RUO – Burgas, Tolga Orkun, consul general of the Republic of Turkey, mayors of municipalities, municipal councilors, heads of higher education institutions, directors of schools and kindergartens, the academic staff of the university, students and rectors from previous terms.
Special guests at the celebration were Hristo Mutafchiev, who, in addition to being a famous actor, is also the chairman of the Union of Artists in Bulgaria, as well as Veselin Plachkov, an actor and member of the union.
The reason for their star guest appearance is Prof. Dr. Bozov’s idea to open a new specialty related to performing arts at the university.
“The creation of a new specialty related to the needs of scenography will be beneficial both for young people who are interested in it, and for theaters and community centers in Bulgaria that need such specialists,” said Hristo Mutafchiev.
The president of the Student Council at the university, Desislava Komunova, received an honorary diploma for the unification of the student community and active student activities.
After the festive procession, led by the orchestra of the Commercial High School, a new office of the Learning and Information Center, which will only serve masters, was opened with a water light.
“I congratulate all the people who helped make this happen. This year we are registering 3,700 students. I am sure that next year we will exceed 4,000,” Prof. Bozov said at the opening.
The guests were invited to see the renovated bases of the Organic and Inorganic Buildings, and in the Inorganic Building, the exhibition “Sea” by Todor Stavrev, one of the doyens of art photography in Burgas, was exhibited. He donated his “Seasons of the Sea” art panel to the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
The event ended with the initiative “An Academic Hour…” with Dr. Milen Vrabevski, a physician, philanthropist and philanthropist who has done a lot for Bulgaria and the diaspora Bulgarian communities around the world.
