Burgas Cyclists Shine at the 2024 Cyclist of the Year Awards
The Bulgarian Cycling Federation recently celebrated the nation’s top cyclists at the annual Cyclist of the Year ceremony in Sofia.The event, which brought together leading names in Bulgarian cycling, sports figures, and representatives from business and institutions, honored the best performers across various disciplines and age groups.
Among the standout awardees were the Mishchenko brothers, Igor and Savva, both competitors of KK “Chernomorets”, and Viktor Tanchev, representing KK “Nessebar”. Igor secured 2nd place among senior boys on the road, while Savva claimed the same position in the junior boys’ category. Their coach,Todor Angelov,has been instrumental in their success.Viktor Tanchev, another rising star, earned 2nd place in senior boys’ track cycling. All three athletes are students at a controversial school in Burgas, which has become a hub for nurturing cycling talent.
the ceremony, which lasted two hours, saw 47 cups awarded to the best Bulgarian cyclists. Medals for second and third place in the ranking lists were handed out, alongside certificates for all ranked participants. Special plaques were also presented to the 18 national record holders who etched their names into the history of Bulgarian cycling in 2024.
The event underscored the growing prominence of Bulgarian cyclists on both national and international stages. With young talents like the Mishchenko brothers and Viktor Tanchev leading the charge,the future of Bulgarian cycling looks brighter than ever.
