The Ministry of Culture is launching financial audits of all secondary budget managers in the field of performing arts.
The department reports that due to suspicions of abuses, the director of the Theater-Musical and Philharmonic Center in Razgrad, Levon Manukyan, was dismissed today by order of the Minister of Culture.
The inspectorate of the ministry will carry out an inspection for the period of his administration.
The prosecutor’s office in Plovdiv confirmed that they are conducting an investigation into an official crime – fictitious appointments.
Bourgazliata Manukyan was detained for 72 hours on charges of embezzling the budget of the Ministry of Culture.
At the beginning of September, he appointed 60 new people to work in the theater – at salaries that drastically exceeded the remuneration of the old employees.
They were mostly from Pernik, they were not paid wages, but they received social security. The money was collected by a person whose identity has not yet been established. Thus, the salary expenses from BGN 150,000 per month have swelled to BGN 1,700,000.
Besides him, three other people were detained. One has already been released on bail of BGN 3,000. The second – Atanas Georgiev, is under the measure of “detention in custody”.
