Burgas is celebrating today the 116th anniversary of one of the most significant events in the recent history of the country – the declaration of Independent Bulgaria.
On the historic September 22, 1908, the independence of the Bulgarian state was announced in the old capital city of Tarnovo with a manifesto.
After this historically significant act, Bulgaria has new opportunities for economic and cultural progress.
In Burgas, the historical anniversary was celebrated with a ritual of raising the flags of the Republic of Bulgaria, the European Union and the Municipality of Burgas and a festive prayer for the prosperity of the country at Atanas Sirekov Square.
Appreciative residents and guests of the city paid the necessary respect to the memory and the holy work of those who died in defense of Bulgarian independence by laying flowers in front of the Monument of the 24th Black Sea Infantry Regiment, located in front of the Military Club at 48 Hristo Botev Blvd.
Among the official guests were the mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov, the deputy regional governor of Vladimir Krumov, the chairman of the Municipal Council Mihail Hadzhiyanev, the deputy mayors Diana Savateva, Manol Todorov and Stanimir Apostolov, the people’s representatives from PP GERB Zhecho Stanov, Lyuben Dilov and Andrey Runchev, municipal councilors and members of the public.
