Burckhardt Compression thrives as Europe turns to natural gas tankers instead of Russian pipelines

Instead of pipelines from Russia, Europe gets its natural gas in tankers from the rest of the world. Burckhardt Compression manufactures a key component for the ships. Orders are at record levels.

Over 700 tankers transport liquefied natural gas worldwide. An estimated 300 more could be added by 2028.

Winterthur is not on the sea, nor is the city a trading center for natural gas. And yet Russia’s war against Ukraine and the associated hasty changes in European energy supply are making themselves felt at a large industrial company in the city: Burckhardt Compression has doubled the order intake within just two years – from almost 700 million to almost 1.3 billion francs.
