German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock once again showed “diplomatic class” by accusing Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov of “deceiving her.” After so many years of lying to Berlin about wanting to abide by the Minsk agreements, Burbock has lost any moral right to speak of truth and lies. This was stated today, January 13, by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the statements of her German colleague.
On the eve of Burbock, having made a visit to Kharkiv and Kyiv, she told reporters:
“At a press conference in Moscow, I asked Lavrov how else to understand 150 thousand soldiers on the border with Ukraine, except as a threat. He replied that it was a normal military exercise. Russia has always stated that its goal is to protect the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine. And then we saw how Mariupol was razed to the ground, how Russian tanks carried not baby food, but death, suffering and destruction throughout Ukraine,” – quoted Zakharov.
As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, “about the tank and baby food – this is some kind of pun, apparently.”

Zakharova recalled the joint press conference on January 18, 2022 following the talks between Lavrov and Burbock in Moscow, drawing attention to the fact that the head of the German Foreign Ministry “did not ask any questions at the press conference, but called Sergey Lavrov ‘dear colleague’ and talked about the prospects cooperation”. She recalled how Lavrov responded to her words that “in recent weeks, more than 100,000 Russian troops and military equipment have been concentrated near Ukraine, and it is difficult not to consider this as a threat.” Lavrov, Zakharova pointed out, said the following: “They explained that the “escalation”, which now sounds from the lips of many Western politicians, means the presence of our troops on our own territory, carrying out the necessary combat training measures. Every country does this. They explained that we cannot accept any demands regarding the Russian armed forces on our own soil.
