Bungie Layoffs in Gaming Industry: Destiny 2 Director Shares Heartbreak

The series of dev layoffs in the gaming industry continues. And the developer affected this time is Bungie, from PlayStation Studios. The company would be releasing some of its employees since Monday morning (30).

According to the journalist Paul Tassi, from Forbes, departments that suffered casualties include communications, social media, legal, publishing and more. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier says that Pete Parsons, the studio’s executive director, sent emails to the entire company to inform them about “a meeting today at the studio”.

One employee who confirmed having lost her job was Liana Rupport, the now former director of communities for Destiny 2. In a post on Twittershe seemed quite sad about the situation.

I’m heartbroken. I don’t know what I’ll do from now on… this was my home. I feel so lost.

Bungie has reportedly postponed Marathon to 2025

With the layoffs, Bungie is also replanning its next steps. Starting with the Destiny 2 expansion “The Final Form”, which would have been postponed from February to June 2024. Not only that, but the Marathon game ended up being postponed until 2025.

The postponements are also Schreier’s information. He cites sources familiar with the situation at the studio, but who asked not to be identified as they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Attention: as neither Sony nor Bungie have confirmed such postponements, treat this part of the article as a rumor.
