Excited until the last day of the game? Not at all. The first decisions in the Bundesliga can already be made this weekend, including the question of whether RB Leipzig will make it into the Champions League. An overview:
championship
FC Bayern is one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund. That means: If Munich wins their home game against RB Leipzig on Saturday (6.30 p.m. / Sky), BVB has to win in nearby Augsburg on Sunday (5.30 p.m. / DAZN), otherwise the bowl is already gone. If Bayern don’t win, the decision will be made on the last matchday.
Champions League
RB Leipzig’s renewed participation in the Champions League could already be certain on Friday – if SC Freiburg loses to VfL Wolfsburg (8.30 p.m. / DAZN). If Freiburg draws, Leipzig in Munich is enough to reach the premier class.
If Freiburg wins, then Leipzig should win too. Depending on Freiburg’s performance, Union Berlin can also reach the Champions League on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) in the game at TSG Hoffenheim with a draw (in the event of a Freiburg defeat) or a win (in the event of a Freiburg draw).
Europa League/Conference League
The starting point is complicated. In principle, fifth place entitles you to participate in the Europa League, and sixth place to participate in the Conference League. But: There is still the cup final between RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt, and Bayer Leverkusen could still win the Europa League – that would affect the number of European Cup places (six or seven). So: no decision on this match day. And maybe not the last.
descent
One thing is clear: If Hertha BSC does not win against VfL Bochum on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky), it will go down to the second division. On Sunday, VfB Stuttgart could be the second relegated team – provided they lose at Mainz 05 (3:30 p.m. / Sky) and Schalke 04 (against Eintracht Frankfurt), Hoffenheim (against Union Berlin) and Bochum won on Saturday.
Looked at the other way around: If VfB lost on Sunday, Bochum (if they beat Hertha) and Hoffenheim (if they drew against Union Berlin) would have been saved. FC Augsburg would remain in the Bundesliga if Schalke lost and Stuttgart took a point at most – the outcome of their own game against Borussia Dortmund (Sunday, 5:30 p.m.) would then no longer be decisive.
