Bayern coach Vincent Kompany makes two changes to the starting line-up against Frankfurt. Thomas Müller is in the starting line-up for the first time this Bundesliga season; Müller was only allowed to start in the DFB Cup game in Ulm. Raphael Guerreiro also replaces Konrad Laimer at right-back.

Before kick-off, Kompany was at DAZN asked why he chose Müller. “His enthusiasm and freshness were also important for us,” said the coach in favor of the veteran. “Thomas was one of our best players in pre-season but of course there is Musiala and Harry Kane and it is a moment for him now. We are also looking forward to having Thomas Müller in the team.”

Michael Ballack also commented on Bayern’s starting eleven. “The coach reacted today and decided on Thomas Müller. That’s never a mistake, as we know.” Müller then proved this with Munich’s opening goal when he prepared Minjae Kim’s goal.

A long series ended a little later when the Bayern veteran received a yellow card for a tactical foul. For Müller it was the first yellow card in the Bundesliga in 130 games; he last saw yellow on May 23, 2020 – also against Frankfurt.

The clear 5-1 defeats in recent years, which Bayern suffered twice in this millennium, were particularly painful. These statistics show that Eintracht is certainly capable of surprising the record champions.

Vincent Kompany has the opportunity to become only the second coach in FC Bayern’s history to win his first four Bundesliga away games. Only Ottmar Hitzfeld has achieved this so far in 1998. Across all clubs, only Ivan Horvat managed to win his first five away games with Eintracht Frankfurt in 1964. So Kompany could reach a significant milestone in his coaching career today.

Top duel for the championship lead

The duel between Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Bayern Munich is a real top game, as both teams are in the first two places in the table. The two clubs will meet in this constellation for the first time since 1994. Eintracht Frankfurt has had its second best start to the season since the introduction of the three-point rating with twelve points from five games. With a win, the SGE could take the lead in the table again for the first time since 1999.

Bayern come to Frankfurt with a 1-0 defeat in the Champions League against Aston Villa under their belt. Goal scorer Harry Kane came away empty-handed in the last two games against Leverkusen (1-1) and against Aston Villa. The Frankfurt team gained self-confidence with a 3-1 win in the Europa League at Besiktas Istanbul.

Omar Marmoush in Topform

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush is currently in outstanding form. With six goals this season, he leads the top scorers list in the Bundesliga and has set a new club record for Eintracht. His performance in the last home game against Bayern was particularly notable, when he was directly involved in four goals. Marmoush will play a key role again today as Eintracht tries to beat Bayern again.
