BVB president Hans-Joachim Watzke said goodbye to the distinguished player via the club’s website. “Marco Reus is one of the club’s best players. He was born in Dortmund, played for almost 10 years in our youth team and for 12 years in the first team, and was the captain of our club for a long time. His relationship with Borussia Dortmund is extraordinary. We wish “Marco, all the best for the future. We really hope that he will return to BVB after his football career – there are enough exciting challenges waiting for him here in Dortmund,” we read.
Reus also addressed the fans, thanked the fans and admitted that it would be difficult for him to say goodbye to Signal Iduna Park. “I am incredibly grateful and proud of this special time at my club Borussia Dortmund. I have spent more than half of my life at this club and I enjoy every day, although of course there were also difficult moments. I already know that. Now that it will be difficult for me to say goodbye with the end of the season, however, I am glad that there is now clarity and that we can fully concentrate on the very important final games that we still have to play, we have a big goal ahead of us that we all want to achieve together fans whom I would like to thank sincerely for their incredible support over all these years,” he emphasized.
For Borussia, Reus played a total of 424 games, scoring 168 goals and making 128 assists. He won five trophies with the Dortmund team – two German Cups and three German Super Cups.
Borussia with 57 points is in 5th place in the German league table. Coach Edin Terzic’s players are still in the race to advance to the Champions League final. In the first semi-final match, BVB defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0.
