Ironically, FC Bayern Munich secured their tenth championship in a row against arch-rival Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening (23.04.22). Bayern managed a lucky but not undeserved home win in a hard-fought game in the Bundesliga.
Serge Gnabry gave the hosts the lead on matchday 31: After a corner from the right by Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Müller headed the ball back to the edge of the penalty area. There was Gnabry completely unmarked, took the ball calmly with his right knee and then pocketed the ball volley with the full instep in the upper left corner (15th). Marwin Hitz had no chance to defend himself.

Dortmund needed a few minutes to mentally recover from the deficit – but managed to do so quickly and strengthened. Because from about the 20th minute of the game, Dortmund attacked the home side consistently and early on. The record champion didn’t get along well with that at first BVB worked out more game shares – and almost the compensation.
Zorc: Haaland’s move to the Premier League would “not completely surprising”
After a pass from Julian Brandt, Erling Haaland, who might move on to the English Premier League in the summer, came to a close, but missed Manuel Neuer’s goal clearly. Before the game, Dortmund’s sports director Michael Zorc had commented on the Norwegian’s future: A move to the Premier League would “not completely surprising”.
The Bavarians: callous and efficient
After almost half an hour, FC Bayern made an impressive comeback in front of 75,000 spectators: First, another goal from Gnabry not denied due to a narrow offside position, but then it really rang again in the Borussia box: Müller put the ball steeply into the path of Robert Lewandowski, who immediately and placed to make it 2-0 for Munich (34th). Shortly before the break, the Pole just missed his second goal.
Second period: early penalty for Dortmund
Shortly after the change of sides, hope arose at BVB: Joshua Kimmich came too late in his own penalty area against Marco Reus, who had previously been inconspicuous. Referee Daniel Siebert immediately awarded a penalty, none of the Bayern players protested.
Emre Can converted confidently in the bottom left (52nd) – a kind of wake-up call for the guests. After a pass from Haaland, Manuel Neuer made a strong save against Reus (54th) and two minutes later threw himself Lucas Hernandez in a BVB counterattack at the last second in a pass to Reus again.
59 minutes: Siebert admits the wrong decision in the Pavard – Bellingham duel
The Munich team then had luck with another penalty-worthy situation: Benjamin Pavard straddled in a duel Jude Bellingham and first hit the opponent, then accidentally hit the ball. This time, the unapologetic team didn’t decide on a penalty – much to the annoyance of Dortmund, who had already been cautioned Coaches Marco Rose. In the “Kicker” referee Daniel Siebert admitted on Sunday evening (April 24) that a penalty kick would have been the right decision.

Sometimes Munich stronger, then BVB again
As a result, the Munich team worked their way back into the game in view of the possible championship celebration, but the hosts didn’t have any further big chances. And ten minutes before the end of the game, the Haaland/Reus duo turned up the heat again – but Dortmund were unable to equalize.
Instead, it was the southern Germans who scored the final point: Jamal Musiala, who had just been substituted on, was in the right place in the center of the attack and converted a pass from Marcel Sabitzer, who had come into play with him, to make it 3-1 (83 ‘). Bayern Munich made their tenth championship in a row perfect – the first title for coach Julian Nagelsmann, and the first obligatory wheat beer shower as Bayern coach.
