Bundesliga rights: Arbitration court rules in TV dispute between DFL and DAZN | Football

After just one day, the German Football League (DFL) had to stop the sale of the TV rights to the Bundesliga from 2025/26 (until 2028/29) in April because the largest package with 196 live games (Friday evening, Saturday 3:30 p.m., relegation) was sold to Sky – even though DAZN had made the clearly better offer.

The streaming platform called in the arbitration court. SPORT BILD learned that the three judges – one each chosen by the DFL and DAZN – will deliver their verdict on September 24.

The rights auction will then continue. However, the losing party would still have the option of appealing to the Higher Regional Court (OLG) in Düsseldorf, which is responsible for antitrust law.

The DFL had rejected the DAZN offer because the required bank guarantee was not available and could not be provided within 24 hours. In the past, the DFL had been satisfied with a letter of comfort. The fact that a bank guarantee was required from DAZN this time is explained by the fact that DAZN – with the consent of the DFL – paid several installments late and is currently in debt to the tune of 55 million euros, which is not due to be paid until December.

Since DAZN allegedly offered 320 million euros more than Sky, at 400 million euros per season for the entire four years, FC Bayern recently intervened in the TV dispute and sent a questionnaire to DFL managing directors Steffen Merkel and Marc Lenz.
