SK Rapid announced the signing of Admira defender Emanuel Aiwu on Monday evening.
The 20-year-old defender receives a contract in Hütteldorf for the next three seasons until summer 2023/24. The parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.
The six-time U21 team player moved from the youth department in St. Pölten to Admira in the summer of 2013. The Innsbruck native made the leap into professional football via the academy and the second team from the Südstadt team, where he made his Bundesliga debut in May 2018.
Since then, Emanuel Aiwu has made a total of 89 competitive appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and one assist.
Managing Director Sport Zoran Barisic on the transfer: “After our transfers so far this summer, I am very happy that we were able to sign another highly talented Austrian player in Emanuel Aiwu. Despite his young age, he was able to gain a lot of experience in the Austrian Bundesliga and is also a defensively versatile player. The overall package is right, so we are very happy that Emanuel has decided on a transfer to SK Rapid. “
“Had Emanuel on the radar for a long time”
Head coach Didi Kühbauer is equally pleased: “We had Emanuel on the radar for a long time because, in addition to his footballing qualities, he also has a lot of experience in the Bundesliga. We are now all the happier that he would like to take his next development step with us, and we will support him in every area. “
Emanuel Aiwu himself says: “I am overjoyed that I am here now. The conversations with the club officials were very good from the start, so I didn’t have to think long about this change. Rapid is the largest club in Austria, I am now happy to be part of this great story and to be able to wear the club colors for which I will give everything on the pitch. “
“Emanuel Aiwu has done a lot for FC Flyeralarm Admira since his youth. The player wanted a new challenge and has to face it with an international one
Participation in the Europa-Legaue group stage met with Rapid. We wish him all the best for his future career, ”said Admira Sports Director Marcel Ketelaer, commenting on the departure.
Emanuel Aiwu will wear number 4 at Rapid.
Aiwu caused a sensation at the weekend when he informed his coach Andreas Herzog shortly before the Bundesliga game against Sturm Graz that he was unable to play the game. The reason for the strike was that he had some offers from home and abroad.
