Clemens Fritz remains head of the professional football and scouting department at Werder Bremen. The club announced on Saturday that the former Bremen team captain had extended his contract.

Just under a week after the promotion to the Bundesliga, Fritz said in a club statement: “We have intensive weeks behind us, in which completely different topics were in the foreground. After the promotion, the time had come to finalize what was actually already known.” . Werder did not provide any information about the length of the new contract.

“He did an excellent job in a difficult transfer summer and played a major role in putting together the squad that enabled us to return to the Bundesliga,” sporting director Frank Baumann praised his former team-mate.
