President of Paderborn: Wohlgemuth is a candidate successor

Chairman Thomas Sagel of second division soccer club SC Paderborn has confirmed that SCP managing director Fabian Wohlgemuth is a candidate successor to former sporting director Sven Mislintat at VfB Stuttgart. “Fabian Wohlgemuth briefed me on Thursday, then late in the evening the phone call came from Stuttgart,” Sagel told “Westfalen-Blatt” (Friday): “We are under no time pressure and will treat the matter respectfully.”

However, Sagel also said that a deal could not be ruled out on Friday. The pay television station Sky and the newspaper “Bild” had previously talked about it. Mislintat and VfB parted ways with immediate effect on Wednesday. Furthermore, it is not yet clear who should lead the 16th-placed Bundesliga player as a coach to the desired relegation.
Stuttgart’s managing director, Alexander Wehrle, has not denied the name of Mislintat’s possible successor to the German news agency. However, he specified that “a decision is taken only when the negotiations are concluded”. SpVgg Greuther Fürth managing director Rachid Azzouzi, Hannover 96 sports director Marcus Mann and Hamburger SV’s Jonas Boldt are also associated with the VfB.
Wohlgemuth has been with second division club Paderborn since 2020. The 43-year-old was previously head of sport at Holstein Kiel. Between 2011 and 2018 he managed the youth division of VfL Wolfsburg. There he dealt with Bruno Labbadia, who acted as a coach in Stuttgart and at the time worked as head coach for Lower Saxony.
