At the end of a brilliant Bundesligaseason will soon be followed by the next season. The anticipation for the 2023/24 season is great. Will Bayern Munich return to the old routine? Can Union Berlin and SC Freiburg build on last year’s successes? How are the underdog climbers from Heidenheim and Darmstadt doing? We from 90min dared to make a prediction for the Bundesliga table after matchday 34.
Warning: You will certainly disagree with most of them and your favorite club is doing worse than you think or hope anyway.

Can we expect another season of absolute Bayern dominance?
After a chaotic season with a satisfactory outcome, FC Bayern would like to return to the winning routine for the new season. The chances are good. Thomas Tuchel has enough time to work with the squad for the first time and the bosses are working on a solution for the gap in the storm center. It threatens the next Bayern year.
Table placement 22/23: 1. Platz

RB Leipzig is back on the road to success. Since Marco Rose has been in charge of Leipzig, the club has been on an alarmingly good path – crowned by the DFB Cup victory.
The well-known departures of Christophe Nkunku, Dominik Szoboszlai and Konrad Laimer are painful, but the Red Bulls have made up a lot of potential with Benjamin Sesko, Christoph Baumgartner and Fábio Carvalho. If the Rose-Elf gets into a frenzy – as it did in the second half of the season – a lot could go up.

Bayer Leverkusen is the secret favorite – you hear this sentence every year, but this season could really be something to it. The sporting development under Xabi Alonso was impressive recently. The most important players (Wirtz, Diaby, Frimpong) remain as is.
In addition, with Granit Xhaka, Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonas Hofmann, three top-quality players have already been signed. The double burden due to the Europa League participation could become a problem. At Leverkusen, however, a positive basic feeling remains.

“How can you?!”, one or the other BVB fan will probably react to this forecast. Failing in the last few meters at FC Bayern and the German championship last year, you might think that next year will finally be the time, wouldn’t you?
Well, considering the momentous departure of leader Jude Bellingham, things could be a lot worse for Borussia Dortmund. There is also a Raphael Guerreiro to replace. The newcomers harbor a certain risk potential. A lot is certainly possible for BVB, but there is still a big risk.
Table placement 22/23: 2. Platz

A major upheaval is imminent for the Adler from Frankfurt. Oliver Glasner had to go, Evan Ndicka and Daichi Kamada went along. In addition, there are still doubts about the whereabouts of Sow, Lindstrom and Kolo Muani. A new chapter begins.
The new man is Dino Toppmöller. Bayern’s former assistant coach has no experience as a head coach at the top level. Doubts exist, but at the same time there is potential. A lot is possible with Eintracht.
Table placement 22/23: 7. Platz
Union Berlin / TOBIAS SCHWARZ/GettyImages
A new season always means that you hear “Union this season has to break down” from some corners. The development is steadily increasing: 11th place, 7th place, 5th place and 4th place have been the placements since promotion to the Bundesliga, and yet there are still doubters.
We believe that the Köppenickers are now too solid to really “break in”. Due to the heavy workload of participating in the Champions League and the high quality of the competition, we believe that this year it will “only” be enough for a place in the Europa League.
Table placement 22/23: 4. Platz

SC Freiburg has a similar image to Union Berlin. Year after year, the people of Breisgau manage to place themselves at the top with little financial means, and yet there are still many doubters. In this case, the same applies to us as to Union.
The sports club is too well established to drop sharply in the table. However, the stress and the great competition ensure that the Streich-Elf will take a step back in the table for the first time in three seasons.
Table placement 22/23: 5. Platz
VfL Wolfsburg / Frederic Scheidemann/GettyImages
For VfL Wolfsburg, the first season under Niko Kovac ended with the bitter lack of international places. The basic feeling among the wolves should still be positive, so the team made a very orderly impression throughout the season.
So one could well come up with the idea that Kovac is taking a step forward in the second year. A basic problem, however, is that VfL performs a lot in phases. There is no indication that this is changing. For the new season this means: 8th place again.
Table placement 22/23: 8. Platz
VfB Stuttgart / Maja Hitij/GettyImages
VfB Stuttgart got away with a fright last season. The Swabians were almost relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. It was only in the relegation against Hamburger SV that VfB secured relegation in the Bundesliga.
A key factor was Sebastian Hoeneß. The ex-Hoffenheim coach has turned things around and sparked new euphoria in Swabia. A good coach, a good team. For us it is hard to imagine that the relegation battle is threatening again.

As a newly promoted team, you can hardly imagine a better first season in the Bundesliga than Werder Bremen’s. Bremen have had a consistently quiet season and were never in serious danger of relegation.
As is well known, the second season after promotion can become a “season of death”. Werder should be warned. However, we believe that the basic structure is too good and even predict that Bremen will make a small jump in the final table.
Table placement 22/23: 13. Platz
Gerardo Seoane / Lukas Schulze/GettyImages
It is probably the biggest grab bag of the coming season: Borussia Mönchengladbach. With Gerardo Seoane, not only has a new coach arrived, half the starting XI has also changed. With Jonas Hofmann, Lars Stindl, Ramy Bensebaini and Marcus Thuram, four of the greatest performers have left. So far, there has hardly been an adequate replacement.
Many fans even trust the foals in the constitution to play the relegation. We won’t go that far – in Seoane, a coach who is too competent has come along for that. We still believe that Gladbach will have problems. In the end, the next season will be in no man’s land.
Table placement 22/23: 10. Platz
1. FSV Mainz 05 / Matthias Hangst/GettyImages
Since Bo Svensson’s arrival, FSV Mainz 05 has left the days of the constant relegation battle behind. The 05ers ended the last two seasons in single digits, but will that remain the case for the coming season?
We have our doubts that the new season will be completely calm for Mainz. At the end of last season, we saw that the high-intensity “battle ball” had its weaknesses. For us it is easy to imagine that the view under Svensson will be downwards for the first time.
Table placement 22/23: 9. Platz
TSG Hoffenheim / DANIEL ROLAND/GettyImages
The past Bundesliga season shattered the illusions in Hoffenheim about possible places in Europe. Up until the last matchday, there were still question marks as to whether TSG would hold up. The Kraichgauer have arrived in reality.
Not much has changed for the new season. Even rescue trainer Pellegrino Matarazzo has not been able to fully convince since he started at TSG. Many doubts remain. We believe that the coming season will be anything but smooth for Hoffenheim.
Table placement 22/23: 12. Platz

With coach Steffen Baumgart, 1. FC Köln has discarded its image as a permanent relegation candidate. In the last two seasons, effzeh had little to do with the relegation battle. Place 7 and place 11 were the final placings under Baumgart.
For the new season, however, it is important to replace the two most important players, Jonas Hector and Ellyes Skhiri – a big task. In addition, at the end of last season there were always worrying phases of weakness. We believe that the new season could be dangerous for 1. FC Köln.
Table placement 22/23: 11. Platz

Which place do you think FC Augsburg will get? According to the statistics, 15th place. The Fuggerstadt team have landed there in three of the last five seasons. It’s the classic FCA image: the whole season you’re in a relegation battle and in the end you somehow still hold the class.
This is exactly how we imagine FC Augsburg in the new season. On paper, the club is in serious danger of relegation. The squad is inferior to most in the league in terms of quality, coach Enrico Maassen was not completely convincing in the first season and experienced players have left the club. The logical conclusion: In the end it will be 15th place again.
SV Darmstadt 98 / Alex Grimm/GettyImages
SV Darmstadt 98 is about to return to the Bundesliga. At their first appearance in the top German division, the Lillien managed the miracle: At least in the first season, the sports club was still in class. That’s the only goal now.
The omens are not good. SV Darmstadt has the lowest squad value in the league and has lost some top performers to direct competitors. The big asset of Lilies is team morale. We believe that this plus will ensure relegation in the end.
Table placement 22/23: 2nd place (2nd Bundesliga)
VfL Bochum / Christof Koepsel/GettyImages
It’s almost a miracle that VfL Bochum can still call themselves a Bundesliga club. The situation last season was completely hopeless. Bochum started the season as the number one relegation candidate and lived up to that over the first few months.
Then Thomas Letsch was hired as the new coach and changed a lot. Bochum need the next sporting miracle for the new season. Again, VfL is one of the favorites for relegation – for us too. We see little hope.
Table placement 22/23: 14. Platz
1. FC Heidenheim/Alexander Hassenstein/GettyImages
It’s the classic case. Every year one of the climbers is considered the favorite for direct descent – we already know that. In the case of 1. FC Heidenheim, there are hardly any other options. The rise of the club came as a huge surprise.
If Heidenheim somehow managed to stay up, that would be a much bigger surprise. The promoted team is probably the biggest underdog of the last few years in the Bundesliga. For our forecast we have no choice but to bet Heidenheim on last place.
Table placement 22/23: 1st place (2nd Bundesliga)
