Paulo Otavio has made a name for himself – with a very ugly action in stoppage time in the game between TSG Hoffenheim and VfL Wolfsburg.
Hoffenheim – It was a scene of the match day that caused quite a stir in retrospect. In the game between TSG Hoffenheim and VfL Wolfsburg, Sky shouldn’t necessarily have raised the ratings for the individual game, but those who decided to go ahead were not disappointed. It was not a bad game in Sinsheim that culminated in a brutal foul by Paulo Otavio.
Bundesliga: Brutalo-Foul von Paulo Otavio
Wolfsburg were 1: 2 behind and goalkeeper Koen Casteels went forward with the courage of desperation at the end of the encounter. The saved ball ensured that Munas Dabbur ran from the center line to the empty goal. Chased by Casteels and Otavio, he wanted to push the ball into the empty case – but Otavio jumped into the attacker’s legs from behind and caused the excitement of the day. A clear assault that will probably bring him a long ban. Fortunately, nothing worse has happened to Dabbur. Paulo Otavio himself also commented on the foul in a long statement on Instagram. He was glad not to have hurt his opponent.
Bundesliga: football fans with amusing comments
The scene was picked up on Twitter and some of the reactions were quite amusing. “If I had to live in Wolfsburg, something like that would happen to me at some point,” wrote one user, for example.

Tactics expert Tobias Escher remarked ironically: “A slight tactical foul by Otavio.” Lawn radio presenter Max-Jacob Ost summed it up with a good comparison: “Otavio with an emergency brake as subtle as a Motörhead concert in the minute’s silence. “As an allusion to a for many annoying advertising of a betting provider, a user wrote:” The honorable Paulo Otavio hates Benny Fuchs as much as we do. ” image-Sport reporter Heiko Niedderer: “Most spectacular and clearest red card ever …”

Bayern blogger Steffen Meyer used the scene to support the Reus anger interview. Marco Reus accused Sky at the microphone that a goal conceded was preceded by a foul by Leroy Sané on Emre Can and that “Bayern would have been whistled”. Meyer writes: “Here again the repetition of the Sané duel against Can from the perspective of Marco Reus.”
Journalist Maik Nöcker, known among other things from the recommendable podcast Fußball-MML with Micky Beisenherz and Lucas Vogelsang, described the situation with a wink: “He’s a tad too late and then the slightest touch is enough at the speed.”
Wolfsburg’s managing director Jörg Schmadtke said: “In the stadium, I thought shortly before: Please don’t do it. Such a thing shouldn’t happen to him. I don’t want to see something like that. ” (ank)
