Fulda (pf) – In the duel at the TTC OE Bad Homburg on Sunday (3 p.m.), the TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell is no longer sporting anything. It will be the third from last place in the table tennis Bundesliga, but a victory is still expected on the last match day in the Hessen derby.

“Hopefully Ruwen is a bit recovered,” says Maberzell’s President Stefan Frauenholz in advance. Because Ruwen Filus was most recently – extremely successfully – in Doha at the WTT Star Contender and posted the biggest single success of his career with second place, plus 19,000 dollars in prize money and many world ranking points with which he was able to climb from 42nd place to 35th.
After the tournament of his life, however, he returned visibly exhausted on Monday: “He was completely exhausted, that’s clear after such a mammoth tournament,” says Frauenholz – but builds on the strengths of his defensive ace. Quadri Aruna, fan Bo Meng and Benno Oehme, who was last used and who was to leave the Bundesliga season, should also leave the Bundesliga season with a good feeling – the opponent with the bottom of the table Bad Homburg is not entirely inconvenient. The bottom of the line brought in a win in the entire season after 20 defeats so far, the success was already at the beginning of December against Grenzau. “It’s about nothing anymore, but it should be a win. We definitely want to win, ”emphasizes Frauenholz – and a bit of prestige is still playing at the end of the season, especially in the derby, where the Maberzeller have their shortest away trip of the round ahead of them. And nobody wants to suffer a tenth defeat in a row at East Hesse, the series currently counts nine bankruptcies in a row.
It will be tenth place in the table, that much is already certain. The same bottom line as last season, after the TTC had romped into the top five of the league for several years. It should go there again in the medium term – provisions have already been made for the new season with the commitment of the French super talent Alexandre Cassin.
