Robert Lewandowski 3, Erling Haaland 2: The world footballer got the upper hand in the brilliant shooting competition of the exceptional strikers in an extremely entertaining German football classic and kept Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
Lewandowski (90.) and Leon Goretzka (88.) turned the encounter with Borussia Dortmund after Haaland’s lightning hits at 4: 2 (2: 2) – “Lewa” even beat the Norwegian boy prodigy as a three-time scorer.
One-two punch through Haaland
This surprisingly brought courageous Dortmunders into the lead with the fastest double pack by a guest professional in Munich for 44 years (2nd / 9th). But Lewandowski struck back with his season goals number 29 to 31 (26th / 44th, foul penalty / 90th). The Pole has now scored an exceptional 22 competitive goals against his former club.
Haaland had to leave the pitch after a kick by Jerome Boateng on the right heel of the Norwegian (60th). Just ten minutes later, Boateng also had to be replaced. He had sustained an injury to his left thigh without outside interference.
The fact that Leipzig overtook Munich in the early evening and took over first place “doesn’t change our route,” claimed Bayern coach Hansi Flick. But before the eyes of his former boss Joachim Löw, the record champions slept through the initial phase again.
“Dortmund was really strong in the first 20 minutes, defended superbly and finished the counterattack really well,” analyzed Löw at Sky: “Bayern was able to improve due to Dortmund’s mistakes.” The national coach saw a “highly intensive” game, “a real top game”.
BVB caught the again sleepy Bavarians by surprise. Thomas Delaney blocked a pass from Joshua Kimmich and staged Haaland, who was not guarded closely enough by Boateng and hit from 18 meters after 70 seconds. At 0-2 he closed a counterattack over Nico Schulz and Thorgan Hazard, who played for the ailing Raphael Guerreiro and Jadon Sancho.
Two goals at the big FC Bayern in the first nine minutes – only Duisburg’s Ronald Worm had achieved that in 1977. Bayern initially found no means against the boldly interpreted 3-4-3 system of the guests, in midfield Kimmich and Leon Goretzka lacked access.
That only changed after 20 minutes. The conspicuous Leroy Sane (17th) and Lewandowski (19th) had chances – also because Dortmund now withdrew and the fast Munich outside offered more space.
Before the goal, Schulz wasn’t close enough to Sane, who served Lewandowski perfectly. After a foul by Mo Dahoud on Kingsley Coman, the video assistant intervened shortly before the break – Lewandowski converted safely from the point.
In the second half, Bayern increased the pressure, Dortmund’s pressing didn’t get caught as often. Lewandowski (62nd) could have made the decision. He did that later.
