Baumann justified the composition of the squad last summer with the club’s financial situation, which was already a “dramatic” one at that point in time: “We were able to spend exactly zero euros in transfer fees and thus brought in six new players,” said Baumann.
“Extremely interesting players on favorable terms” were offered: “But it would have been economically irresponsible and threatened to exist,” said Baumann. “A descent is dramatic, but not the end. If at some point we can’t pay the bills, that’s the end. And that would have happened if we had brought in a new one,” he said.
