Hertha BSC – VfL Bochum 1:1 (0:0)
The crash is sealed, rescue is no longer possible: Hertha BSC has missed its blue and white football miracle and at the end of another chaotic season is the first relegated from the Bundesliga. On matchday 33, the Berliners drew 1-1 (0-0) in the all-or-nothing game against VfL Bochum and sealed the seventh Bundesliga relegation in the club’s history.
Lucas Tousart (63rd) put Hertha in the lead, Keven Schlotterbeck (90th + 4) shot Hertha into the 2nd division.
The last time Hertha had to go into the second division was in the 2011/12 season. In the previous season, the old lady had only saved herself in the relegation. With 26 points, 16th place can no longer be reached with one game to go before the end of the season. Bochum is not sure of relegation yet.
The relegation exacerbates Hertha’s major structural problems. Due to the threatening financial situation, the license is currently in danger. The club has to prove its financing for the coming season to the German Football League (DFL) by June 7th.
FC Schalke 04 – Eintracht Frankfurt 2: 2 (1: 1)
Schalke 04 can continue to hope for relegation in the Bundesliga after an emotional point win. The team of coach Thomas Reis fought back in the charged “final” against Eintracht Frankfurt after a deficit of 2:2 (1:1). This puts the Royal Blues in 16th place, but VfB Stuttgart can overtake them on Sunday.
Simon Terodde (1st) got Schalke off to a good start in the sold-out arena, while Daichi Kamada (21st) and Tuta (59th) turned the game around. Sebastian Polter managed the much-acclaimed equalizer shortly before the end (85th).
Should Stuttgart lose at FSV Mainz 05, the Royal Blues will go into the Bundesliga final next weekend on the relegation rank. At RB Leipzig, however, top performer Moritz Jenz will be missing, who, like Terodde, saw his fifth yellow card.
TSG Hoffenheim – Union Berlin 4:2 (2:1)
Union Berlin has to worry about its first participation in the Champions League again. The Irons lost on the penultimate day of the Bundesliga 2: 4 (1: 2) at TSG Hoffenheim. Due to the defeat, Union is only ahead of fifth-placed SC Freiburg on goal difference.
Ihlas Bebou (22′), Andrej Kramaric (36’/foulelfmeter, 90′) and Munas Dabbur (90′ + 9′) scored for Hoffenheim, who made it practically perfect to stay up. The goals of Danilho Doekhi (45+4) and Aissa Laidouni (90+5) were not enough for Berlin. With a win against Werder Bremen on the last day of the game, Köpenicker can still qualify as the 15th German club in history for the Champions League.
Werder Bremen – 1. FC Cologne 1: 1 (0: 1)
First trembling, then cheering: With a 1-1 (0-1) win against 1. FC Köln, Werder Bremen dragged themselves over the finish line in the race for relegation on the penultimate day of the Bundesliga match and, as a promoted team, can claim another first division plan season.
In a nervous and often hectic game, Steffen Tigges, who pushed a cross from ex-Bremer Florian Kainz over the line from close range in the 36th minute, gave the visitors the lead. Romano Schmid (73′) equalized with a classic goal
