Although the game between Augsburg and Borussia was announced as a “Polish” match, from the first minute we watched only one Pole on the pitch. Rafał Gikiewicz stood in the hosts ‘goal and at the beginning of the game he was the hosts’ hero. Within ten minutes, he showed off with three excellent interventions, including a great parade in the 7th minute, when he defended a shot from outside the penalty area of Jadeon Sancho.
BVB’s lead was still large, but Augsburg became bolder as time passed. It got dangerous in the 26th minute, when Roman Buerki left the goal and missed the ball, but luckily his mistake was corrected by the successful intervention of Mats Hummels. However, in the 39th minute the hosts achieved their goal. After a very good cross from Daniel Caligiuri’s free kick, Felix Udokhai jumped to the top of the penalty area and headed the ball into the net, leading his team to the lead.

And surprisingly the hosts managed to keep this lead until the break. In the 45th minute, Gikiewicz had another successful intervention, breaking the cross of the BVB players and he and his friends could go down to the dressing room in a good mood.
The first half ended as well, the second began. In the 54th minute, a great pass was received by Caligiuri, who caught eye to eye with Buerkie and easily beat the BVB goalkeeper, scoring a second goal for the hosts who completely surprised the favored team from Dortmund.
The visitors continued to attack, but the defense of Augsburg was well organized. Besides, the hosts did not limit themselves to the defense and tried to harass their rivals from time to time. In the 70th minute Carlos Gruezo had a good shot and the ball rubbed the top net.

In the 86th minute Gikiewicz did a great job again. Sancho sent a flat ball into the penalty area, the ball reached Karim Dahoud, who, however, lost the duel with the excellent Polish goalkeeper. As it turned out, neither of the teams managed to change the result and the Augsburg players were able to enjoy the unexpected victory. The decisive hero of the hosts was the Polish goalkeeper, who stopped Borussia and showed that he is in excellent shape.
