Bundesliga: Magic goals bring BVB victory against Hertha

Status: 02/19/2023 8:50 p.m

Borussia Dortmund celebrated a clear success with goals worth seeing against Hertha BSC and is catching up with leaders Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Karim Adeyemi (27th minute), Donyell Malen (32nd), Marco Reus (76th) and Julian Brandt (89th) scored for BVB in the 4-1 (2-0) win against Hertha BSC. Lucas Tousart shortened in the meantime (46th). In a tight game, the higher individual class of Borussia decided the game. Like leaders Munich, BVB now has 43 points and is second behind FCB.

However, it was not the teams on the pitch that caused the first fireworks display, but the Hertha supporters, who used pyrotechnics to cover the stadium in such thick smoke that referee Harm Osmers had to wait before kicking off.

Adeyemi casts a spell and injures himself

The Berliners had the first sporting opportunity, but Gregor Kobel parried against Florian Niederlechner and in the margin against Marco Richter (21st). Then came Adeyemi’s hour. The striker conjured up a failed shot by his captain Marco Reus with a heel into the goal.

Adeyemi was also wide awake afterwards: in the running duel he left the Hertha defense standing, sustained a thigh injury in the sprint and still put the ball across to Malen, who scored the second goal. Bitter: It didn’t go any further for Adeyemi, the stadium celebrated him with chants. BVB Managing Director Carsten Cramer expects a precise diagnosis and statements on Adeyemis’ possible downtime on Monday at the earliest.

Reus decides the game

The second half started with a bang: Tousart finished the first attack of the Berliners with a strong shot under the crossbar. Five minutes later, the strong Kobel prevented the equalizer. After that, the game rippled a bit. Substitute Jamie Bynoe-Gittens then had the third BVB goal on his feet, but missed (65th).

In the 70th minute it didn’t go any further for a few minutes. Radio problems with the referee team brought the game to a standstill. When the game was back on, there was a free kick for BVB – which Reus converted fantastically directly. Shortly before the end, Bynoe-Gittens took an example from Adeyemi’s solo from the first half: he danced out three Herthaners and used Brandt. It was the end of the game.
