The duel between TSV Hartberg and SCR Altach in the Admiral Bundesliga on Sunday was all about Miroslav Klose’s debut. The 137-times German national player and neo-trainer of the Altacher had to admit defeat with his new team to the Hartbergers 1:2 (0:1). The 2014 World Champion saw his team “far from being ready to play my football”.

Although Klose was able to “enjoy” his debut as a coach in a game with two opposing halves, he was not entirely satisfied with the game of his Altach: “We didn’t find our positional play at all in the first half. The second half was definitely better, we created clear chances to score.” Next Saturday’s home game against Wolfsberg will give us the opportunity to get a feel for the new system.
“As a team, we’re following the path of the new coach, and you saw that to some extent. That’s why I’m in good spirits, we’ll analyze it and try to do better next game,” said striker Adthe Nuhiu, who scored the goal but failed to equalize.
Klose effect is a long time coming
While newly promoted Austria Lustenau celebrated their first win, Cashpoint SCR Altach suffered a defeat on Miroslav Klose’s debut. So the trainer effect is still a long time coming.

Donis Avdijaj was Hartberg’s match winner on Sunday: The German gave Hartberg the deserved lead at the break in injury time in the first half and increased to 2-0 after 77 minutes, contrary to the course of the game in the second half. Nuhiu’s goal in the 84th minute was not enough, also because the experienced striker failed a few minutes later when he had a great chance to equalize against the brilliant Rene Swete. The Hartberg goalkeeper saved his team from conceding a goal several times, which is why guest coach Klose then certified him a “cream day”.
Hartberg builds on the opening win
The victorious Hartbergers were obviously far more satisfied with their performance. “The first 45 minutes were pretty good,” said goalie Swete. Coach Klaus Schmidt praised both his offense and defence: “The team put in a top fighting performance and was very effective in front of goal. We can build on that. But we still defended very well at the back.” Avdijaj, who scored twice, had to be replaced injured around ten minutes before the end, but was optimistic after the final whistle that he would be able to play again next week against WSG Tirol.
