Berlin – Former Bundesliga scorer Klaus Fischer raves about Bayern attacker Robert Lewandowski and trusts him to set the Gerd Müller record.
“There have been years when you would have got the top scorer cannon with 21 goals at the end of the season – easy! And now Lewandowski has already scored so many goals after not even a half series,” said Fischer of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. “I would never have believed that it would get to the point where I would say that, but: It could even be that Gerd will break the record.”
The record is 40 goals in the 1971/72 season, and Lewandowski has already scored 21 goals after 16 days of playing in the Bundesliga. The Polish international had “no weaknesses,” said Fischer. “He’s a strong runner, agile, strong with a header, both feet, and he’s not slow either. And he does everything to be fit.” With 268 goals, Fischer is the second most successful striker in Bundesliga history after Gerd Müller (365). Lewandowski is already third (257).
