Now the referees are also sounding the alarm!
With Deniz Aytekin (46/Nuremberg), Robert Schröder (34/Hannover), Frank Willenborg (45/Osnabrück) and Patrick Ittrich (45/Hamburg), four prominent referees are currently out injured.
Many people are already feeling the increasing burden football-Stars criticized. With Ittrich we now have one for the first time Bundesliga-Referee asked the DFB to take measures to minimize the risk of injury.

Ittrich in an interview with “web.de”: “The DFB has to think about measures outside of the games when it comes to managing the load on the referees. In contrast to the professionals, we don’t train with a team. I stand alone on the square. In case something happens to me, I have to build a network and organize a doctor and a physio. And the physio doesn’t wait for me to call that I’ve injured myself.”
The Hamburger continues: “A lot of players have already complained about the problems with the many games and the load control. This is also reflected in the referees.”

Ittrich is currently out due to a “serious” muscle injury. About the flood of injuries among the referees, he says: “It could be a coincidence that it adds up. On the other hand, Aytekin and Willenborg are also over 40 years old.”
The referees are now making more and more effort to stay fit. “But you can’t explain away your age. The traveling from game to game in particular is a challenge for the body,” said Ittrich.
For the police officer, there is currently “more fuss about it than necessary”: “There were also phases in the past in which three or four referees were injured at the same time. This wasn’t noticed that much because it wasn’t communicated before. And then no one cared.”
It is still unclear whether anything will change in the future after Ittrich’s criticism of the DFB…
