The 56-year-old lived in Hamburg until recently. Now the experienced coach is back in Swabia.

Hamburg/Stuttgart. Bruno Labbadia becomes the new manager of VfB Stuttgart. The 56-year-old has signed a contract until 30 June 2025, the Bundesliga club announced on Monday. Labbadia is supported by Bernhard Trares, who joins VfB as assistant coach.

Labbadia is enthusiastic about VfB Stuttgart

“As you know, VfB is not just any club for me. I spent a very important phase of my coaching career at Stuttgart for almost three years and now I want to help VfB stay in the Bundesliga,” said Labbadia, who coached Stuttgart between 2010 and 2013.

The Stuttgart side parted company with coach Pellegrino Matarazzo on 10 October after nearly three years. Since then, assistant coach Michael Wimmer has been looking after the team. After his commitment to Labbadia, the 42-year-old is leaving the club. “Now is the time for me to take the next step and take on a new challenge,” said Wimmer.

The VfB has a new sporting duo for the relegation battle

Only on Saturday did the Swabians sign Fabian Wohlgemuth, their new sporting director, after the departure of Sven Mislintat. Wohlgemuth and Labbadia have known each other from their time together at VfL Wolfsburg, when Wohlgemuth was in charge of Lower Saxony’s youth division and Labbadia was there under contract as coach.
