Borussia Dortmund – Hertha BSC 2:1 (0:1)
Hertha BSC has to tremble in the relegation for relegation in the Bundesliga. On the last regular match day, the Berliners lost 2-1 at Borussia Dortmund and fell back to the relegation zone because of VfB Stuttgart’s simultaneous victory over 1. FC Köln. Ishak Belfodil gave the visitors a 1-0 lead (18′) with a converted penalty kick that Dan-Axel Zagadou was responsible for inflicting on Belfodil. Arminia Bielefeld follows SpVgg Greuther Fürth into the second division. The East Westphalians came to a 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig on the last day of the game, but were no longer able to achieve relegation status anyway thanks to VfB Stuttgart’s victory over Cologne. The relegation of Fürth had been certain for a few weeks. Bielefeld, who will probably be coached for the last time by regular goalkeeping coach Marco Kostmann, were often too harmless in attack against RB. Overall, there were few offensive actions in the first round. Among the Saxons only Christopher Nkunku caused occasional danger. It initially remained the same in the second section. But then Bielefeld scored the 1-0 lead through Janni Serra (70′), which didn’t change anything about relegation – especially since Willi Orban equalized for Leipzig in injury time to make it 1-1 (90′ + 3′).

VfL Wolfsburg – FC Bayern Munich 2: 2 (1: 2)

The “Iron” won against the promoted team 3:2 (2:0) and are allowed to present themselves on the European football stage for the second year in a row. Instead of playing in the third-class UEFA competition, the Conference League, as this season, coach Urs Fischer’s team will continue in the 2022/23 season against higher-class opponents in the Europa League. Grischa Prömel (5th), who will play for TSG Hoffenheim next year, and Taiwo Awoniyi (25th, penalty, 88th) scored for the Berliners. Borussia Mönchengladbach – TSG Hoffenheim 5: 1 (3: 1)
