Bundesliga compact: FC Bayern wins without Lewandowski in Cologne – Hummels leads BVB to victory

1. FC Cologne – FC Bayern Munich 1: 2 (0: 2)

Even without its top stars Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka, FC Bayern Munich clinched their fifth win of the season with some difficulty, while 1. FC Köln remained without a win after the record champions’ 2-1 (2-0) victory. FCB coach Hansi Flick had left Lewandowski and Goretzka in Munich, compared to the 2-1 at Lok Moscow in the Champions League, switching to six positions. The Munich team showed a moderate performance at first, but took the lead from Thomas Müller’s penalty after Marius Wolf touched the ball with his hand in the Cologne penalty area (13th). Ismail Jakobs shot just wide on the other side (19th), FC goalkeeper Timo Horn blocked a long-range shot by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting exactly at Leroy Sané, who was too surprised to capitalize on it (29th). Before the break, Müller hit the ball from a promising position (39th). The completely undisturbed Serge Gnabry (45 + 1) made the preliminary decision after the outstanding ball conquest by Joshua Kimmich by counterattack before the break whistle. Cologne almost came through with a header through Jakobs (71st), before Dominick Drexler really scored for the hosts this time – 1: 2 in the 82nd minute. Cologne sniffed the balance, but remained unsuccessful.

Thanks to a rare double from vice-captain Mats Hummels, Borussia Dortmund achieved a 2-0 (0-0) away win against promoted Arminia Bielefeld. Without the striker Erling Haaland, who was missing with knee problems, BVB had a difficult attack. Borussia was more active from the start, had 81 percent possession of the ball in the first round but hardly any significant opportunities despite great pressure. Thomas Delaney (6th) and Manuel Akanji (41st) still had the best BVB chances. The 1-0 came after the break – but in an unorthodox way: Thomas Meunier did not catch the ball after a corner, instead the game device slipped through to Hummels and dripped from his thigh into the Bielefelder goal (53rd). Crazy: In the absence of Haaland, after a Reus cross, the world champion also scored the decisive second goal for Borussia with a header (71st) – only his second double in the 337th Bundesliga game. By the way, Hummels, who was later replaced with thigh problems, stoked the first more than ten years ago, on January 17th, 2010 in a 3-2 draw against Cologne. That decided the game.

Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt stay 1: 1 (0: 0) in the chasing field. The teams had initially delivered a distributed game, but after half an hour the home side turned up – Daichi Kamada scored the 1-0 for Frankfurt, who was denied recognition due to an offside position (34th). Immediately after the restart, Jiri Pavlenka defused an André Silva header with a strong save (49th). In direct return, the bell suddenly rang in the Frankfurter Tor. A strong pass from Christian Groß landed on Josh Sargent, who started on the left and was able to overcome Kevin Trapp (51.). Tahith Chong had the 2-0 on foot a little later, but the Werder talent was stopped in a good position by SGE defense chief Makoto Hasebe (56th). After an unnecessary loss of the ball by SVW youngster Jean-Manuel Mbom against Aymen Barkok, the ball came to Kamada, who in turn put it to Silva. The Portuguese overcame Pavlenka (65th).

FC Augsburg – 1. FSV Mainz 05 3:1 (1:0)

Slowly but surely, the situation for Mainz 05 is becoming dramatic – after the 1: 3 (0: 1) defeat at FC Augsburg, the Rheinhessen remain pointless even after the sixth match day. In a largely uneventful first half, in which Augsburg was basically the more active team, the FCA made the 1-0 on the counterattack with the first big chance: After a blocked Iago shot, the ball fell in the penalty area to Ruben Vargas, who with a remarkable overhead kick Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner overcame (40th). In the second round, Mainz coach Jan-Moritz Lichte reacted to the up to then harmless offensive performance of his team, brought Karim Onisiwo for the weak Jean-Philippe Mateta. The Joker struck immediately: just six minutes after being substituted on, the Austrian FCA goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz tunnelled after Mainz had captured the ball deep in their own half (64th). But the FCA stayed tuned – and won with a brace from ex-national player André Hahn (80th, 90th + 1).
