Cologne (SID) – 1. FC Cologne has to do without its defensive boss Sebastiaan Bornauw in the fight to stay in the Bundesliga. The 21-year-old Belgian will “have an operation on his spine on Wednesday,” said sports director Horst Heldt on Monday. The conservative treatment did not lead to success, Bornauw continued to suffer from back pain.
“It is possible that he will be back on the training ground in seven to ten days,” said Heldt. The operation is small, “it still has to be done because the pain does not subside.” Bornauw last played for FC on January 24th at 3-0 at TSG Hoffenheim and has been missing since then.
Marius Wolf and Ondrej Duda are also ailing. “It’s too early to give any information for Saturday,” said Heldt, referring to the game against VfB Stuttgart.
