Stuttgart in the style of a top team
Thanks to captain Marco Reus, Borussia Dortmund managed to win against Hoffenheim on the sixth attempt. In coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team, BVB prevailed 1-0 – and established themselves at the top of the table. Just like VfB Stuttgart, who won 2-0 at Hertha BSC after another sovereign performance. RB Leipzig expanded their top position after four match days with a 2-0 win in Augsburg. Freiburg and Bremen parted in a draw. Mainz got nothing on the chain against Leverkusen.
FC Augsburg – RB Leipzig: 0:2 (0:1)
Tore: 0: 1 Angelino (45th), 0: 2 Poulsen (66th)
The Augsburgers made life difficult for the old and new leaders RB Leipzig by defending strongly. The Bulls barely found any gaps in the first half, but did so shortly before the break whistle. Dani Olmo with the cross on Angelino at the far post, header, in. The Augsburg up until then offensively far too harmless. Leipzig pressed the 2-0 in the second half, Dayot Upamecano could only poke the ball on the line, but not over it, after 60 minutes.
Yussuf Poulsen made it better a little later: Just substitute, he threw the ball into the box with a volley from the left of the half-left. Definitely worth seeing! And game crucial. A deserved success. For completeness: Florian Niederlechner still had the best chance of scoring the next goal, but gave away before RB keeper Peter Gulacsi (82nd).
TSG Hoffenheim – Borussia Dortmund 0:1 (0:0)
Tor: 0:1 Reus (76.)
Lucien Favre is obviously a fair sportsman. Since Hoffenheim had to compete without the Corona-infected top striker Andrej Kramaric, the BVB coach initially refrained from using his attacking bull Erling Haaland. Hardly surprisingly it was 0-0 after 45 minutes, although both teams created opportunities. The closest to the goal came the game-determining Borussia shortly before the break – Thomas Meunier’s header after a corner but only caressed the framework.
After an hour, Favre had the faxes thick – and exchanged victory with Haaland and BVB captain Marco Reus. After a header extension, Haaland took off and placed in front of 1899 goalkeeper Oliver Baumann across Reus, who hit the orphaned goal from seven meters. after five games without a win against TSG, it was the first three of the black and yellow against their feared opponent from Kraichgau.
SC Freiburg – Werder Bremen 1: 1 (1: 1)
Tore: 1: 0 Lienhart (15th), 1: 1 filling jug (25./FE)
Gray weather, no spectators, there have been nicer football afternoons in Breisgau.
Everything started promisingly: Lucas Höler withdrew after a corner, Philipp Lienhart skilfully stuck his foot in and Freiburg was ahead. Five minutes later, the hosts cheered only briefly about the 2-0. Jonathan Schmid was called back by the VAR. Roland Sallai was previously offside, right decision. Instead of extending the lead, the SCF then conceded the equalizer, Leonard Bittencourt was put by Nicolas Höfler, Niclas Füllkrug sank the penalty under the crossbar. As a result, the northern lights thawed, and the game suddenly balanced.
In the second half, Bremen made a slight plus, but there were opportunities here and there. The really big opportunities did not materialize. So it stayed at the gray 1: 1 in Breisgau.
Hertha BSC vs VfB Stuttgart 0: 2 (0: 1)
Tore: 0: 1 Kempf (9.), 0: 2 Castro (68.)
Swabian appearance in Berlin – what sounds like an ordinary Saturday in Berlin-Mitte, in this case refers to VfB Stuttgart’s guest appearance at Hertha BSC in front of 4,000 spectators in the Olympic Stadium. A first “Hallo-Wach” was given for the Berliners after seven minutes. Ösi clippers Sasa Kalajdizic headed a Coulibaly flank to the post. A few moments later, defender Marc-Oliver Kempf made it better. He died a half-field free kick by Daniel Didavi for Hertha keeper Alexander Schwolow untenable in the goal.
Hertha’s headache worsened when striker Peter Pekarik was injured. Hertha looked insecure after the early deficit, the attacks fizzled out on the Swabian defensive. Significantly: The most dangerous action arose from a Stuttgart ricochet that almost ended as an own goal. Also significant: Substitute Lukebakio came on with the wrong jersey.
After the break, Kalajdzic (again with his head) let the 2-0 lie. Then Hertha increased the pressure on the VfB goal. Stuttgart concentrated on countering – with success. Castro captured the ball in midfield, doubled in on the penalty area and shot the ball into the corner. So the climber “fights” three points in the capital.
Mainz 05 – Bayer Leverkusen: 0: 1 (0: 1)
Tor: 0: 1 Alario (30.)
A game without many highlights. How fitting that the goal came after a set piece. Leon Bailey with the corner, center forward Lucas Alario with his head. Mainz safe to unsettled over long stretches. And Leverkusen? There was a lack of esprit and ideas to punish the opponent with a second goal. Despite the first success of the season, there is still plenty of room for improvement in the Rheinische with the noble goals.
Anti-highlight of the second half: Edmond Tapsoba stopped the steeply skilful Karim Onisiwo, saw the red card (78th), but was allowed to stay in the game because the Mainz player had been sidelined. That was the video evidence. Good thing it was over soon.
