JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Perum Bulog rice stock finally reached the figure of 1 million tonnes, which is the safe limit of Government Rice Reserve (CBP) rice.
President Director of Perum Bulog Budi Waseso, explained that this achievement could not be separated from the efforts of his staff for almost a month to monitor the implementation of the absorption of farmers’ rice grain during this year’s main harvest season.
Existence 1 million tonnes of rice stock This was disclosed by Budi Waseso in Jakarta, Sunday (28/3/2021) when closing the Internal Coordination Meeting of Perum Bulog with Regional Heads of Bulog throughout Indonesia regarding the strategy for the absorption of rice grains from farmers.
“After weeks of all the Bulog Directors have gone to the fields to monitor and ensure the absorption of domestic farmers’ production, as of today Bulog’s rice stock has reached one million tons,” said the man who is familiarly called Buwas, in his official statement.
The former Kabareskrim said that the realization of the absorption carried out by Bulog until the end of March this year was higher than the two previous years.
As of March 26, Bulog has absorbed more than 180 thousand tons of rice domestically produced from all over Indonesia.

Buwas added, Bulog’s daily absorption this year has reached an average of 10 thousand tons per day. According to him, this performance will tend to increase again in the next few weeks.
Regarding the polemic about rice imports, President Joko Widodo emphasized that there would be no rice imports until June 2021. Jokowi said that the rice harvested by farmers would be absorbed by Bulog.
Buwas also opened his voice regarding this matter. He emphasized that Bulog is ready to carry out the tasks mandated by the government to its institution.
He also expressed his gratitude to the President for providing support in absorbing rice for the national food stock.
In line with that, Buwas then questioned various oblique comments that considered Bulog to be incapable of absorbing rice properly.

“Those who think that Bulog is not capable of absorbing it, what are the indicators? Let’s talk using data and use thinking patterns system thinking not fatalistic. So seeing a problem must be comprehensive and interrelated. Do not jumping conclusion,” said Buwas.
Previously, the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Muhammad Lutfi revealed the background for the decision to import 1 million tons of rice this year. This is mainly due to Bulog’s low reserve rice stock.
Lutfi said, Bulog has the task to maintain rice reserves or iron stock amounting to 1 million-1.5 million tonnes annually. The size of the stock figures has been a basic principle of the government for a long time.
This rice reserve is needed for urgent needs such as social assistance or market operations for price stabilization. As for the rice procurement by Bulog, it can come from within the country or abroad.

“So if it turns out that Bulog’s absorption is good, we don’t need imports. There are years we don’t need imports, like in 2019 and 2020,” Lutfi said in a virtual press conference, Friday (19/3/2021).
