Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
President Director of Public Company (Perum) Bulog Budi Waseso revealed that his company was entangled debt worth IDR 13 trillion. The debt was triggered by the procurement of government rice reserves (CBP) which reached 1.2 million tons.
Buwas, as he is familiarly called, said that the rice reserves were stocks until the third week towards the end of the year which were absorbed from local farmers.
“Our debt is IDR 13 trillion, where is IDR 13 trillion of our debt? Yes, that’s 1 million tons of CBP rice, right, the rice comes from debt,” Budi said in a press conference quoted from Detik Finance, Tuesday (28/12) .
He said CBP rice as a form of state assignment must be paid immediately. If not, then Bulog will lose money and the interest will swell.
However, the rice will only be paid by the government when it has been distributed to the community. In fact, according to him, the government should pay for the rice procurement as soon as possible.
The former Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) hopes that there will be certainty from the government regarding the need for CBP rice every year.
“We hope that in the future there will be certainty. Previously, the need for CBP was 800 to 850 thousand tons per year, then our debt could be reduced by Rp. 9 trillion. So hopefully the regulations will change,” he said.
Bulog is considered to only need to prepare a budget for distribution and maintenance of rice, if the government directly pays for CBP rice. That way, Bulog’s debt will not accumulate.
