The chief prosecutor of Bulnes, Rolando Canahuate Ronda, reported that the Oral Criminal Court of Chillán handed down a conviction for three crimes of bribery against Jaime Riveros Aedo, who, acting as a lawyer for the Judicial Assistance Corporation of Bulnes and Quillón, requested money from poor privileged consultants, which is prohibited given the vulnerable nature of these individuals.
After seven days of oral trial, the judges estimated that three acts of bribery are configured, for which they will announce their sentence on Friday the 25th of this month. The Prosecutor’s Office is requesting a sentence of 800 days in prison and the suspension of the position that the accused holds until today.
The Oral Criminal Court of Chillán detailed in its ruling that on September 7, 2012, it asked a woman for 20% of what would be obtained in a trial. In 2015, the plaintiff won the trial and obtained 5 million pesos. On May 20, 2015, she represented another woman in a civil lawsuit and requested 400 thousand pesos. And in a custody case, she asked another woman for 50,000 pesos.
In the court’s opinion, “the aforementioned facts constitute three completed crimes of bribery, an illicit offense foreseen and sanctioned in article 248 of the Criminal Code, corresponding to the defendant Jaime Eduardo Riveros Aedo, participation as direct executor, in accordance with the provisions of the article 15 No. 1 of the same punitive code”.
