Bullying, another virus to fight

Congratulations to Michael Nadeau for his courage. He is a grade 12 student who attends the school in the Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany in Edmundston. Just recently, he had the great courage to reveal that bullying was still a reality in his school and that it was manifesting itself in an even greater way this year than in previous years. The director of this institution, Bertin Lang, confirms.

So what does the word intimidation mean? Bullying always involves a disrespectful relationship between two or more individuals. In each case, there are one or more executioners commonly called aggressors and one or more victims.

This intimidating relationship is always inappropriate, undignified, inhuman. It can manifest itself in various ways such as written words, images, touches, behaviors or even aggressive and threatening words. Sometimes the executioner will proceed with mockery or threats that hurt, humiliate and above all cause fear. In other words, the executioner seeks power through fear.

Let us remember that the executioners are not only found in schools, but also in the commercial world, in certain homes, in politics and elsewhere.

The consequences for the victims are very serious and serious. They may therefore think and even believe that they are socially unworthy. Such an attitude can create a kind of earthly hell.

To get out of it, the victims can use the method of Michael Nadeau. They must therefore take their courage in hand, talk about it with their parents, with the school administration, teachers, guidance counsellors, psychologists and even the police.

In other words, no one has the right to make others suffer regardless of their background. Silence is not a magic recipe. It is through courage, through denunciation and through everyone’s action. If the victims remain silent, their executioners will continue to make them suffer and will gradually destroy their human dignity as well as their taste for life. Bullying is another virus to eradicate.
