Bullet Holes in MTA Buses: A Cause for Fear in Broad Daylight

The bullet holes in windows, cans and other places of two MTA buses that were traveling in broad daylight are images that cause fear.

Jorge Espinoza works on 125th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, just steps from the shooting that authorities say occurred on Wednesday around three in the afternoon.

“Yes, yes, I am afraid, of course I am, because some stray bullet, as you say, could happen someday, right? In an unindicated place, it could hit you,” said Espinoza.

According to information from the public transport workers union, the two affected buses were covering the M101 route and were transporting passengers at the time of the events.

At that time, children leaving their schools also walk the streets, and even though there are two police stations a few steps away, criminals don’t care, said an MTA bus driver.

“And in broad daylight no one is afraid of the police here anymore. Everyone does what they want, you go out and you never know what can happen, you can only take care of yourself and try to avoid it, but when things happen you don’t has control,” said Eusebio Santiago.

One of the vehicles was hit by a bullet that broke a rear door light. In the other car, one of the bullets hit a compartment in the rear that contains air conditioners and other equipment.

Incredibly, no one was hurt by a stray bullet, because at three in the afternoon thousands of children leave their schools and the area fills with people.

The shooting caused one person to be taken to a hospital due to shock or fright.

“Well, here is a very conflictive area, yes I have seen, in fact yesterday in that marqueta they were grabbing a person, and they had him handcuffed. Then I do see that they intimidate, scare people and they are young. And of course, for the society is something that one would like to eradicate, right?” Espinoza added.

Investigations continue to find the whereabouts of those responsible and the collaboration of citizens is requested. If you know anything, call 1888 57 PISTA.
