Bulgaria’s New Minister of Defense Confirms Continuation of Military-Technical Assistance to Ukraine for Regional Stability

The new regular Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev stated that Bulgaria will continue with providing military-technical assistance to Ukraineand this to ensure its own stability and the stability of the region.

“I’m talking about the need to continue providing aid (to Ukraine), that’s it extremely important to ensure our security. And what exactly we will give depends on many other things – on the real needs at that moment, on what we have at our disposal. Of course, there must also be a decision of the National Assembly“, he said.

So far, however, Kyiv has not presented specific requests, but there will be clarity on the matter next week, when the defense ministers meet in Brussels. “It is preceded by a meeting in the rammstein format and I suppose that there I will get clearer information about the specific requests at the moment. Because to repeat again – the security, independence of Ukraine is extremely importantso that our entire region will be secure in the years to come.”

“There are many (top priorities), I can’t name one. The most important thing is to navigate the situation. I have to do many things first, first of all to form my team. This is a very important matter, without a team one one cannot do anything,” Tagarev also pointed out.

The composition of his cabinet will consist of two deputy ministers, the name of one of whom is already clear – Stanimir Georgievwho was deputy head of the Ministry of Defense during the “Petkov” cabinet.

There is a consensus between GERB and PP/DB and on another main issue – at least 2% of GDP will be allocated for defensethe minister emphasized.

The first appointed deputy ministers are in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Defense

We recall The 48th National Assembly decided to send military and military-technical assistance to Ukraine, since previously the decision was to provide only humanitarian aid. After its dissolution, however, the implementation of the decision remained in the hands of Rumen Radev’s office, and doubts were repeatedly expressed as to whether the government implemented it in its entirety.

A reminder that Todor Tagarev was named as Minister of Defensewhich was the first and unimplemented proposal in Kiril Petkov’s office.
