Bulgaria’s Border Police Director Rositsa Dimitrova Resigns Amid Controversy

The director of the Border Police, Rositsa Dimitrova, is leaving her post, the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced, as quoted by Euronews Bulgaria.

This is Dimitrova’s second release within the past month. She was released in mid-June without reasons, and the former head of the SDVR, Anton Zlatanov, was offered her position. However, he resigned after a public outcry erupted against his appointment. The reason for it was Zlatanov’s participation in “maintaining order” during the protests in 2020, when videos showed police violence against protesters.

So Dimitrova remained in her post. However, she has now resigned. Motives were again not reported.
“She will continue to be part of the MIA system as a civil servant. Minister Stoyanov thanked her for her work so far and will count on her in the future as well,” says the message from the Ministry of the Interior.
